What I’ve learned about picking photos for fridge magnets (after printing a lot of them)

Quote

Hi all. Bit of a disclaimer up front: I run a small photo magnet shop called Sticky Moments, so I’m not neutral here. But I keep seeing the same questions in gift threads, and most of the answers come down to a few things nobody tells you before you order.

1. The shape matters more than the photo.
People pick their favorite picture first and then try to force it into a square. If it’s two people or a group, a square crop will cut someone off. Rectangles are the forgiving option for groups and landscapes. Squares are great for one face or a pet.

2. Check it small before you order.
A photo that looks amazing full screen can turn into mush at 2 inches. My trick is to zoom out on your phone until the picture is about the size of a credit card. If you can still tell who’s in it, it’ll print fine.

3. Test your fridge first.
A lot of stainless steel fridges aren’t actually magnetic, and panel-front ones never are. Grab any magnet from a drawer and try it before you spend money.

4. Sets beat singles for gifts.
One magnet feels like a freebie. Three to six built around one thing, like a trip, a year or a grandkid, feels like an actual present. Grandparents especially go nuts for these.

5. Skip the text, or keep it to a name and a date.
Anything longer gets unreadable on something that small.

If anyone’s curious, our sizes are on the Sticky Moments site (https://www.stickymoments.co/). Honestly, though, the tips above apply wherever you order. Happy to answer questions about crops or sizes if you’re stuck on a specific photo.
